Quick HURT 100 2014 Update

Aloha,

I have some great news!

This morning my entry into the 2014 edition of the HURT 100 miler was accepted! Time to start getting back to work on the trails. I am starting to feel recovered from Javelina and I will likely hit up my first easy run back in the morning. I might also add the 12 hour New Years Resolution run at the end of December with Jeff as a practice night run for the HURT.

That is about it for now.

We are also working on a Run With Garrison logo and some shirts will likely follow…

  1. If this were me, I would be happy to get in the race but then a little worried when I remembered it was 100 miles.

    • Keith, as usual you are correct. The 100 miles will be tough, but the gnarly footing and the 25,000 feet of climbing will certainly put me in the hurt locker. Maybe I can persuade you to head out here that weekend for a little fun! More details to follow.

  2. Congrats on getting into the Hurt 100, Mike. I did some investigation into just what it is you signed up for here and I can say without a doubt, you are a mad man, my friend! 5000ft ascent and decent on each of five 20 mile laps. That in itself is HURT enough. But the trail is, as I am sure you know, wicked rough. One suggestion; work on your hip flexor strength. Good luck on the preparation for this one, may illness and injury stay far far away.

    • Thanks Cuz! The HURT 100 is no joke–you are completely correct. A big part of my training plan is to spend at least half of my runs on the same trails that host the race. I think yoga with Pauline 1-2 times a week might also help a bunch. I hope all is well!
